Thursday, July 15
"Smoke," comprised of guitarist Roy Hershberger and vocalist Joe Holt, will perform in concert from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Thursday, July 15 at Faith Baptist Church.
The concert, a component of the noon hour concert series, is high energy, acoustics, gospel and blues - with a little soulful jazz mixed in.
Bring lunch and a beverage; desserts will be served.
The Headwaters Intervention Center will be at the Park Rapids Farmers Market Wednesday, July 14 to answer questions about the services they provide and the needs presented in our community. Donations are welcome for their work.

The Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council is sponsoring the first Arts Downtown PR event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 15 in Park Rapids.
This event is designed to bring audiences to see and hear visual artists, musicians, writers and other artists in businesses in downtown Park Rapids on the Third Thursday of the month year round.
Thursday's musical line-up includes County 20, the North Star Ensemble, Alabaster Falls, Ben Ranson, Fran Gack and Eddie Kidd as well as poet LouAnn Muhm, the Minnesota Folklore Theater, bead artist Patrick Polk, the ongoing display at Blank Canvas Gallery and more.
A schedule of venues and times various artists will be performing will be available at downtown businesses and the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber office as well as on the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association website, www.parkrapidsdown town.com.

Log Cabin Quilters of Bemidji will present "Quilts for all Seasons 2010" from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 16 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at the John Glas Fieldhouse on the Bemidji State University Campus.
The show will include 400+ quilts, daily demos, vendors and silent auction.
Evelyn Nall of the metro area will present bed turning at 11 a.m.daily.
Classes each day will be presented by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company.She will also be doing a trunk show and book signing from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

St. Joseph's Hospice will host a chicken dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 16 at the Park Rapids American Legion Club.
The menu includes chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberries, roll, beverage plus the "famous" brownie sundae bar.
The Weston A. Price chapter will host a potluck picnic at 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 16 at Heartland Park.
The public is welcome.
The Mantrap Valley Conservation Club will have a fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 16 at the clubhouse located 1.5 miles east of Emmaville on CSAH 24.
A free will donation will be accepted. Proceeds will be used toward sponsored projects and renovations.

Bemidji Civil Air Patrol is hosting its annual open house from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17 at the Bemidji Regional Airport.
Cadets will be on hand to talk about Civil Air Patrol, giving presentations and demonstrations about the program and answering questions about Civil Air Patrol opportunities.

Diane Sauer will be providing music at 10 a.m. Saturday July 17 at the Park Rapids Farmers' Market, located at Pioneer Park on Main Street.
Sauer lives near Lake George and has been a musician at the Woodtick Theater in Akeley for 10 years.
She performs a variety of folk, bluegrass and country music on guitar, banjo and ukulele.

Sunday, July 18
A benefit pork/turkey dinner for Pastor Ron and Phyllis Winters will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 18 at the Park Rapids American Legion.
A free will offering will be received and a silent auction will be held.
The Winters were involved in a car accident in March, the driver of the other car without insurance. Proceeds will go toward medical bills. Both are going through extensive therapy.
Tuesday, July 20
PEO Chapter T will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 20 at the home of Kathy Kavolak with Char Westrum and Diane Guinn as co-hostesses.
The program will address "getting to know our PEO scholars and recipients," presented by Bickey Bender and Jan Swedberg.
Thursday, July 22
The Park Rapids Area Library summer books sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 22 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 23 in the library basem*nt.
Sponsored by Friends of the Library, the sale includes gently used hardcover and paperback books and more for all ages. It will feature older Danielle Steel novels at a special price, magazines for five cents, craft books and books on digital photography.
The second day holds additional bargains.
Raffle tickets for the quilt that was pieced and donated to the Friends of the Library will be available.
All ages are welcome; the library is handicapped accessible.
Tonic Sol-fa, a four-member a cappella group, will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 22 at the Historic Holmes Theatre.
Tonic Sol-fa has spent the past decade on the road carving their niche as the nation's top vocal group. In that time, this quartet has been named one of the top five "must see" groups in America, has been awarded numerous original song and album awards in pop, gospel and holiday genres, appeared on NBC's Today Show and in Newsweek magazine.

The Friendly Squares will host the "Source of the Mississippi Hoedown" square dance on Saturday, July 24 at the Park Rapids American Legion.
The event will start at 2 p.m. with a round dance workshop. Then at 3 p.m. a "plus " square dance workshop, at 3:30 p.m. a mainstream workshop and at 4:30 p.m. a contra dance workshop.
Club members will offer a supper at 5:30 p.m. The evening dancing will start at 6:30 with round dancing and at 7 p.m. with mainstream square dancing with occasional plus tip and one contra dance.
Callers will be Tom Allen and Dick Rueter with Donna Stone cueing rounds and Duane Olson as prompter for contras.
Visiting dancers and spectators are welcome.
Sunday, July 25
Hubbard United Methodist Church will dedicate its new organ at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 25 with the public invited to attend at no charge. Rev. Laurie Kantonen, the church's new minister, will welcome those in attendance.
Jim Hockin, guest organist, will play a varied concert on the Rodgers Signature 229 Organ, including works by Mozart, Bach, Haydn and an U.S. Armed Forces Tribute.
Hockin, who has been a piano soloist with the Minneapolis Symphony and Lake Harriet Orchestras, has studied organ with Edward D. Berryman. He recently retired from dental practice.
The Rodgers Signature Model 229 organ incorporates sound space technology, allowing the organist to select room sizes and wall types to create acoustic depth and realism, much like 3-D stereo.
The organ can be set to play pedal voices automatically so a pianist can comfortably play the organ without having to use the pedals. This organ utilizes USB memory stick technology for storage of sound settings. Performances may be recorded and re-played at a later time.
A reception will follow the concert.
