It’s early, but Spirit Halloween stores are officially open across the U.S., so it’s not too early to look at Halloween trends for this season. Even though I want summer to last forever, I personally love Halloween and am all about celebrating as early as possible. One of my friends is even thinking of having a Halloween-themed pool party before summer is over, and I can’t wait.
Spirit Halloween is Open
First, let’s look at Spirit Halloween stores. Aug. 1 is the date these stores open up nationwide, so these Halloween experts are already open, ready for you to get your haunted on. Spirit Halloween is the nation’s largest Halloween retailer. They’re hiring more than 50,000 seasonal employees this season to help run the company’s more than 1,500 retail locations.
When asked about the start of the Halloween season, Steven Silverstein, CEO of Spirit Halloween, said, “Opening over 1,500 retail locations is no small feat, and much of the magic we create for fans each year is thanks to the passion and dedication of our associates who bring the Spirit Halloween experience to life.” He also mentioned that the “passion and dedication” of the Spirit Halloween team is super high right now. Spirit Halloween has also been around for four decades, so they could be called Halloween experts. If you’re interested in working at Spirit Halloween, find information via their job page. Their slogan is, “So much fun, it’s scary,” which makes me giggle.
Halloween Trends for 2024
One big Halloween trend this year is actually “Summerween.” It’s kind of what I was describing about my friend’s Halloween-themed pool party. Summerween involves people incorporating Halloween celebrations, decorations and other spooky things into the summer months. It’s apparently become very popular this year, so if you think it’s too early to bring out that light-up Jack-O-Lantern, think again.
As for more traditional Halloween trends for 2024, it’s an election year, so you can bet on some election-themed costumes. So far, it appears that lots of costumes that trended in 2023 will be back this year, including Harley Quinn, Barbie and zombies. Last year, Barbie was one of the most popular costumes, according to Forbes.com. Since that movie is a bit old now, it probably won’t be as popular in 2024, but expect to still see that costume around. Also, when you look at the early Halloween offerings at stores, traditional decorations, such as pumpkins, witches and ghosts, seem to be making a comeback. I have no idea what I’m going to dress up as for Halloween this year, but I’m excited to delve into what’s available. I did a little vlog about Halloween a few years ago, and a lot of the same items are available, so check it out below.
Anne Erickson started her radio career shortly after graduating from Michigan State University and has worked on-air in Detroit, Flint, Toledo, Lansing and beyond. As someone who absolutely loves rock, metal and alt music, she instantly fell in love with radio and hasn’t looked back. When she’s not working, Anne makes her own music with her band, Upon Wings, and she also loves cheering on her favorite Detroit and Michigan sports teams, especially Lions and MSU football. Anne is also an award-winning journalist, and her byline has run in a variety of national publications. You can also hear her weekends on WRIF.
The Hottest Slang Words to Make You Sound Cool
Extra
I don’t like this slang term. It just sounds silly to me. But, “extra” means “overly dramatic” or “too much.” So, if someone says you’re extra, don’t say, “extra what?” Just tell them that they’re being “extra” for using the term.
Dope
This one isn’t new, but dope is still, well, a dope slang term. It means “awesome.” So, if someone says something you did is dope, it’s a good thing.
Let's go
This one might be getting old. But, the phrase “Let’s go” is super popular these days. I see almost every musician I follow use it when they announce a new release. I’m guilty of this, as you can see in the post below. It’s also popular at sporting events.
OK Boomer
This one is kind of funny. “OK Boomer” is really popular right now, and it’s basically when someone from an older generation is complaining or being condescending towards the younger generation. If someone hates the new music out there, you might say, “OK Boomer,” to them and shrug.
