Last week, the #EuropeanCommission announced new tariffs on #Russian and #Belarusian origin #cereal, #oilseed and #animalfodder imports. The European Commission said tariffs of between EUR 93/tonne and EUR 148/tonne would be imposed on certain products, while an #advalorem #duty of 50% will be imposed on others. Some products will be excluded from the EU quota system. The biggest impact seems to be on Russia, which sells about USD 2 billion of the products to the EU every year – and growing. The EC imposed the measures to combat grains #theft within the occupied #Ukraine. This could go some way to placating Eastern European farmers, who have long complained that higher Ukrainian grain exports have suppressed domestic #prices within the EU. But where will Russia send its grain now? And where will the EU source its products? Read all about it in our latest analysis FREE on CZ App here: https://lnkd.in/e6rf_sje

Why intervention almos…The idea behind beggar-thy-neighbor policies is the protection of the domestic economy by reducing imports and increasing exports. That is usually achieved by encouraging consumption of domestic goods over imports using protectionist policies—such as import tariffs or quotas—to limit the amount of imports.

📣 EU Proposes Increased Tariffs on Russian and Belarusian Grain Imports📈 On March 22, 2024, the European Commission proposed increased tariffs on Russian and Belarusian grain products to prevent market destabilization, combat illegal grain exports from Ukraine's territories, and cut off funding for Russia's aggression against Ukraine. 🎯 The tariffs target cereals, oilseeds, and derived products, aiming to suppress imports into the EU without affecting exports to third countries. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasizes the balance between supporting the EU economy, protecting farmers, and maintaining global food security. ✅ The measures also include Belarus to prevent circumvention of tariffs. Transit to third countries remains unaffected, reaffirming the EU's commitment to global food security.Original source 👉: https://lnkd.in/g2XUTd9S#EUsanctions #sanctionsupdate #sanctionscompliance #Russiasanctions #Trade

As the results of Xi's bet on economic growth through exporting subsidized, high-end goods become more evident, the US and EU is retaliating by drawing up plans for further tariffs on imports from China. Maybe Xi should focus more on increasing domestic consumption by Chinese households instead? #ibherlufsholm #ibeconomics #ibbusinessmanagement #china

First Australia-China barley shipment since tariffs easedThe first #cargo of Australian barley, since tariffs were eased in early August, is on its way to China. According to Kpler data, the Majestic Island loaded barley at Kwinana and Esperance and is now on route to South China. The reduction in Ukrainian barley supplies, coupled with weather-related damage to China's own #grain harvest, resulted in increased domestic grain prices. In response, the government decided to ease tariffs on Australian barley. This coincided with a thaw in diplomatic relations between the two countries.Since restrictions eased, China bought 700k-1,000kt of Australian barley, mostly for animal feed. Three more vessels are scheduled to load Australian barley for China in the next nine days, according to Kpler. In 2018, Australia exported 2.24 Mt of barley to China, the peak before tariffs in 2020 disrupted the trade. Renewed Australia-China trade will likely reduce #shipments to Middle Eastern markets, particularly Saudi Arabia.#kpler #globaltrade #drybulk
